NEWS AND PHOTOS FROM PREVIOUS TERMS!

Spring 2011.

Not all bands from this term had photos but we will put them up if we find more or have any photos sent in. All apologies. Jez.

Below are some photos from Spring term 2011 and the Project 3580 event.

Big thanks to the PROJECT 3580 team for giving WSRP bands a great opportunity to play for a good cause and learn how to perform under pressure. All the bands played well and started things off with a bang! Great work from all the bands!

Prior to the Marrs Bar gig the WSRP Mother Of All Rock Shows was an absolute success! One of our best shows. Despite the show falling on Mothers day, the friends and families turned out in force to hear some great music.

Thanks to everyone for their support!

Staff, Students, Parents and Friends.

The first show went really well and the second show was heaving!

See you all at the Marrs Bar if you can make it!

Cheers! Jez and Cymone. WSRP.

WSRP bands will also be performing at the Marrs Bar on Sunday 10th April from 12pm until 2pm at a charity event Project 3580. Click here

Our newest junior band, The Unknown performed a track by Green Day. Atmos Fear played some Kings of Leon. A band naming themselves Cat Killed The Electric Zombies played The Killers and Radiohead. The Girlz performed Lady Ga Ga, Oasis (with a cellist ! ) and Kesha and the final act Vodka in a Bottle of Fish, performed REM and Greenday. We are open to different instruments and styles to encourage any types of musicians to join WSRP.The show was full of memorable moments and very convincing performances. Well done to all the junior bands!

The Senior Christmas shows were both great and very different. We had many regular and new WSRP seniors performing this term.

SHOW 1 opened with the adult band The X factor Rejects playing heavy metal, ska and soul. Cookie Monster On A Moped, (new to the seniors this term) , enjoyed themselves on stage and performed a great set of songs by Paramore, Pendulum and Red Hot Chili Peppers very convincingly. Drums, keyboards and guitars all working well together. The next band calling themselves Memorable played a great set of SOAD, Greenday, Blur and one of their own on the night. They were followed by a Rap and Human Beat Box combo. We've never had rap before at WSRP and it went down well.

The second half of show 1 started with Contagious, who were our Junior battle of the bands winners, playing really well with a new additon to the line up this term. Toni and Dani continued the set with an acoustic song. They were followed by Christmas regulars We are Santa who performed some of the best guitar solos we've heard at WSRP, they upped their game this term and have proved to be setting a good standard for the senior bands at WSRP. Brad then stepped up for his solo acoustic number. The show 1 headliners this term, Emergency Exit , performed some very tight and great songs on the night. The drumming in particular was accurate, aggressive and impressive as were the vocals and well arranged guitar parts. The show ended with the vocal group singing a Stevie Wonder classic.

SHOW 2 began with Who You Luking At ?, with the help of the tutors. They played tracks by Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand and seamlessly linked the two songs. The only band to do it on the night. The guitars were accurate and complimented each other really well. They clearly knew it worked well and the singing was great too! Brunkle worked well this term and pulled themsleves together with a great set of songs. Their original songs stood out and Dom took on the job of lead vocals and performed convincingly with passion. The other guys in the band played a very tight set and continued to impress when they switched instruments. Dom continued with a brave solo acoustic performance. The next band up were Roarge, a combination of Rory and George. They worked very hard this term to produce some convincing Metal. George had a confident swagger as he moved in on the mic and his metal vocals cut through the guitars and came over really well. George can sing and play well and Rory did what he's best at, playing tight metal riffs and solos, with accuracy at the top of the list! It was a great performance.

SHOW 2 began with Zero 2 Hero, playing a cracking set of originals and covers. They clearly are becoming a great band who really think about what they do and want to achieve. Great performances all round. Next up was Dom from That's What She Said, who performed an excellent instrumental guitar solo, it was one of the hairs on the back if the neck moments of the show. We were all impressed with what he achieved, at WSRP. Then That's What She Said , a great band who continue to improve and impress, performed a great set of well chosen covers. Ben and Sam then followed their set with some acoustic numbers. They have mastered some great skills over the term! Well done guys! Sam and Toby performed their acoustic numbers and then Carbonated Zebra, the final act on the night, who continue to impress us at WSRP, took to the stage. They put a surprisingly heavy set together and clearly enjoy themselves and performed to the audience. The confidence they had on stage and the way the played the songs produced a great finale to the show. Thanks to all the bands who have all developed their performance and musical skills. They have yet again proved what a unique place WSRP is and the talent we produce is of a high standard! A big thank you from the WSRP team for all your hard work.

Photos from the Junior Summer Show on Sunday 18th July, at Bishop Perowne High School Theatre. REVIEW OF THE SHOW BELOW!

Junior Summer Show review 2010.

The Extent of My Stupidity play a couple of indie hits with a more professional sound that the band has developed with the help of Rhys. Great music played by Callum, Harry and Joe with Rhys on Drums.

Chickin Lickin Pixies of Asia Mark2 play some matured music. Great visuals on the backdrop, (take note other bands you can do a backdrop next time if you want) The band has the new addition of keyboards creating hypnotic melodies throughout the keyboard based songs, a kind of new wave prog rock vibe coming across in their own song. Jodie came over very confident sing and playing keyboards, James displayed his technical ability and Zak was excellent on drums. A great performance.

MBL are first timers at WSRP with Ben in a new band on his 2nd WSRP term. They played some Green Day songs and do a good job, lead well by Luke on guitar and sang really well by Matt. Great work all round.

The Wigs have great fun on stage playing a mix of rock and pop songs, we don't restrict bands to just playing rock at WSRP. But the songs do come over rocky and sound great. Chloe is again looking natural on the guitar and confident on stage, Lauren does brilliantly on her first WSRP show and no surprises that Epi on drums, plays accurately on all the songs.

Division are brand new at WSRP playing The All American Rejects. Jess and Emily did well. Considering the extra pressures of playing live for the first time and only being at WSRP for 5 weeks, they produced a good result. Jess has a great voice and Emily is talented on the drums. Can't wait to see how they develop.

Contagious pull off a great confident set with some great songs played tightly and sung well. Dani's voice comes over well and Toni delivers the songs very well. Alex, Ross and Joe play as a unit and worked well together. I am impressed with how good they sound.

Cheesy Riffs play a great version of Black Parade with great dual vocals from Maisy and Cat, They work really well together. Leannah on drums has improved so much, playing the song and remaining focussed. Out front the song came over well. Sam and Luke played the guitar parts well. Despite Harry not being at the show, the band came over well without the additional guitar part.

Thanks to all the junior bands and to the Parents for their support over the term.
