The first ever Summer
School Show was held on Friday 12th of August 2005 in Worcester Arts Workshop's
Theater. This is a great little venue and was ideal for this show.
We had five bands
based around five different drummers, and of course we had our Junior
band too.
The event kicked off
with Oscar and Lee doing an instrumental number that they'd written themselves.
Oscar demonstrated how good on drums he's become in short space of time
and Lee riffed away on the bass to accompany him. Great stuff! This was
followed by our Junior band consisting of Oscar, Kyle, Ben and Will who
performed Green Day's 'When I Come Around'. Another excellent performance.
The seniors performances
began with James, Jake, Troy and Harry doing AC/DCs 'Back in Black'. This
was followed by Alex, Alasdair and Jack who wowed the crowd with their
performance of Metallica's 'Call of Cthulu'. Joe was guest vocalist on
'For Whom the Bell Tolls' and got my vote as star performer of the evening.
This ended the first half of the show and the crowd applauded a lot!
Troy, Harry and Joe
began the second half with The Cult's 'She Sells Sanctuary' which was
very popular. This was followed by a Foo Fighters cover which was also
a good performance. After this Gaz, Lee, Luke and James performed 'Iron
Man' by Black Sabbath with Luke doing a great Dave Mustaine impersonation
on vocals! Lee, Luke and Jez (bass tutor) finished off the evening by
doing a Dream Theater medley (no mean feat!) a Tourment track (one of
their own) and another instrumental number at the end - very loud!
All in all it was
an excellent evening with some fantastic performances. The students proved
how much they can achieve in just one week! We look forward to doing the
same thing in the Summer School next year...
